AI Robot Chefs Now Cooking 100 Dishes in China
Walk In, Get Scanned, Then Get Served

Imagine walking into a restaurant and instead of being greeted by a waiter, a robot scans your face and even your tongue before you order. In Hangzhou, China, this is already happening. According to South China Morning Post, at least three eateries in Zhejiang province are now running with artificial intelligence systems replacing a large portion of human staff, turning what used to be a normal dining experience into something that feels straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Robots Can Cook 100 Dishes Without Complaints
One of the standout places, 24 Jieqi Robot Restaurant, uses eight robots to handle ordering, serving, and even stir-frying, covering about 60% of the kitchen workload. Before customers order, the system performs an “AI analysis” by scanning physical features to generate a health report and suggest suitable seasonal dishes. Manager Cai Haitang shared that these robots can cook more than 100 dishes, including Three Cup Chicken, Crab Roe Tofu, and Pian Er Chuan, while engineer Zhu Qi explained that the machines store fire settings and replicate human cooking movements to ensure consistent quality every single time.
Cheaper Meals, Same Taste, Bigger Future
For human chef Deng Xuhui, the technology has made a huge difference, cutting his workload in half and allowing him to focus on creating new dishes and managing ingredients. The efficiency has also lowered food prices, with meals dropping from 20 yuan (RM11.60) to around 15 yuan (RM8.70) at one community canteen. Customers reportedly say the food tastes no different from human cooking, which raises a bigger question about the future of the industry. With the stir-fry robot market valued at 3.8 billion yuan in 2025 and expected to reach 12.5 billion yuan by 2030, this shift might not just be a trend, it could be the new normal.
