Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shared a lighthearted moment as Anwar took the wheel of a Togg T10X, Türkiye’s fully electric SUV, in a video posted on 12 February.

Erdogan had gifted the Togg T10X to Anwar as a symbol of their friendship, following his two-day working visit to Kuala Lumpur. While driving to the Seri Perdana Complex, Anwar jokingly expressed his surprise that Erdogan trusted him enough to be his passenger.

“Even Azizah Doesn’t Trust My Driving!”

As Erdogan questioned Anwar’s remark, the Prime Minister laughed and explained:

“Because I hardly drive… and we drive on the left-hand side.”

This triggered laughter inside the car, with a Turkish official in the backseat joking that perhaps they should get out for safety reasons.

Anwar went on to reveal that his wife, former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, also had little faith in his driving skills.

“Azizah asked me, ‘Why do you need to drive?’ Because she doesn’t trust my driving,” he quipped.

Anwar added that he used to drive more frequently during his tenure as a visiting professor at Georgetown University in Washington DC from 2005 to 2006.

Erdogan Impressed by the Togg T10X’s Quiet Ride

During the drive, Erdogan highlighted the sound insulation of the Togg T10X, asking Anwar:

“My brother, you don’t hear anything, right?”

To which Anwar, clearly impressed, responded:

“Yes, really. It is very quiet.”

He also praised the car’s dashboard, calling it “fantastic”.

Meanwhile, in the caption of the video, Anwar cheekily wrote that he would also take Azizah for a drive—though it remains to be seen if she’ll accept the offer!
