Black Panther Finally Captured After Three Years of Eluding Perhilitan

Residents of Kampung Tumang, Johol, Negeri Sembilan can finally breathe a sigh of relief as a 47.5kg male black panther that had been roaming the area for the past three years was successfully captured by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) last Sunday.
Panther Caught After Years of Failed Attempts
According to Negeri Sembilan Perhilitan Director, Faizal Izham Pikri, the department received information about the panther’s presence at 7:40 AM before deploying officers to the scene.
It was also confirmed that the animal had sustained injuries on its face and neck, though the cause of the wounds remains unknown.
The presence of the black panther had been a source of concern among villagers, as it frequently wandered close to residential areas. Despite multiple attempts by Perhilitan to capture the elusive predator, previous traps proved ineffective due to its larger-than-expected size.
After several failed efforts, Perhilitan decided to deploy a tiger trap, which ultimately succeeded in capturing the black panther.
To Be Treated Before Returning to the Wild
Following its capture, Perhilitan has announced that the animal will be transferred to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) for treatment. Once it has fully recovered, the department plans to release it back into its natural habitat.
After three years of playing ‘hide and seek’ with Perhilitan, the elusive black panther has finally been caught—bringing an end to the long-standing concerns of Kampung Tumang’s residents.
