Bondi Beach Gunman Identified as Police Raid Sydney Home

Australian Media Name Suspected Bondi Beach Gunman

Australian media have identified one of the suspected gunmen involved in the deadly Bondi Beach shooting as Naveed Akram, a man from the Sydney suburb of Bonnyrigg.

The identification was reported by public broadcaster ABC, which cited an official speaking on condition of anonymity as investigations continue into the terror attack that killed 15 people.

Police Raid Home in Bonnyrigg

Following the identification, police raided a residential property linked to Akram in Bonnyrigg. The raid was part of an ongoing investigation into the mass shooting that took place during a Jewish festival at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether Akram was the gunman killed at the scene or the one who survived with critical injuries.

Conflicting Status of Suspects

Police previously confirmed that one of the gunmen was shot dead at the scene, while another was critically injured and taken to hospital under police guard.

However, officials have not clarified which of the two suspects Naveed Akram is, with authorities urging caution as investigations and forensic examinations continue.

Attack Declared Terrorism

The Bondi Beach shooting has been declared a terrorist incident by Australian authorities, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stating the attack deliberately targeted the Jewish community.

The incident marked Australia’s worst mass shooting in nearly 30 years and has prompted nationwide mourning, heightened security, and renewed calls for action against antisemitism.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have continued searches and interviews as part of the Joint Counter Terrorism Team investigation. Authorities have stated they are not looking for additional suspects at this time.

Further updates are expected as officials complete ballistic testing, forensic analysis, and review digital evidence obtained during the raids.
