A Chinese tourist has gone viral after confronting staff at a hotel in Malaysia over the absence of China’s national flag among a display of international flags.

According to the widely shared video, the man, who was in Malaysia for work, noticed numerous national flags hanging outside the hotel’s restaurant. However, he claimed China’s flag was nowhere to be seen.

He then approached the restaurant manager and questioned why it had been left out.

Hotel Explains The Real Reason

During the exchange, the tourist reportedly told the manager that if the hotel wanted to attract Chinese customers, it should also display China’s national flag.

The restaurant manager, who appeared surprised by the confrontation, later explained that the display had nothing to do with favouring or excluding any country.

Instead, the decorations were created for the FIFA World Cup, featuring only the national teams that had successfully qualified for the tournament.

Since China failed to qualify for this edition of the World Cup, its flag was not included in the display.

Incident Sparks Debate Online

After the video spread across social media, many users described the incident as an awkward misunderstanding.

While some believed the tourist acted out of patriotism, others felt he should have first asked for an explanation before accusing the hotel of excluding his country.

Many also praised the hotel staff for remaining calm throughout the conversation and explaining the situation professionally.
