A heartwarming video showcasing the beautiful Christmas decorations in the labour room of Miri Hospital recently went viral on social media, receiving praise from netizens.
The video, shared by one of the hospital’s staff, starts with a view of the beautifully decorated door to the labour room, before focusing on nurses happily posing with Christmas trees, figurines, and posters of angels and Jesus at a corner just after the entrance.
Staff nurse Nicole Suling John told The Borneo Post that decorating the department for festive occasions has become a tradition for them, and coincidentally, they also participated in a decoration contest organized by the hospital.
“Our initial intention was to leave a good memory of this department in this (old building) as we will be moving to the new building sometime next year. So, we did a collection among the staff, including specialists, doctors, nurses, and medical assistant officers,” she explained.
“The collection was voluntary, yet we are thankful for the amount we managed to raise, allowing us to do this beautifully,” she said.
Nicole explained that the decoration began on November 24, even before the festive decoration contest was announced. Their efforts won them second place, with the Emergency and Trauma Department taking the first place.
“Our goal in decorating the labour room was to bring the Christmas spirit to our patients. The meaning of Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ, and it is close to our hearts since the labour room is where we witness births every single day. Every birth is a beautiful moment. We hope the decorations bring joy and blessings to our patients,” she added.
Even though they didn’t win the contest, Nicole said they felt blessed and happy because they had done their best to make the patients feel comfortable and to create a homely atmosphere for the staff.
“The labour room operates 24 hours, and many of us work in shifts. We’ll also be working on Christmas day. So, this decoration gives us good vibes,” Nicole shared.
