China Tourist Shares the Reasons KL is Disappointed: “Why are there so many Indians here?!”

Most of the time, tourists visiting Malaysia have a good time and leave happy with their trip.
But, not everyone feels the same way.
A tourist from China shared on her XiaoHongShu account about how disappointed she was with her trip to Kuala Lumpur. She listed down her various complaints about our city.
She wrote, “Kuala Lumpur, I’m really disappointed in you.”
Here’s her list of complaints about Kuala Lumpur:
Firstly, the attractions
She thinks that the tourist spots in KL, like KLCC, Dataran Merdeka, and Petaling Street, are overrated.
“(These places) look very different from the photos. When I got closer, I found the surroundings noisy and chaotic, and I didn’t feel any unique cultural vibe,”
“There were also some popular check-in spots, but after going there, I found they were nothing special. They didn’t bring any surprises or excitement, and some even looked old and run-down. For example, Petaling Street feels like a small village in China,” she wrote.
Next, Indian people??
She wasn’t happy to see so many Indian people around.
“And why are there so many Indians here?! I always felt unsafe on the streets, even when taking a taxi or ordering food delivery. There are also many (Indian) workers in stores and many of them wandering the streets,”
“When I walked on an overpass, I saw them not wearing clothes, lying on the stairs, ha ha ha. (Oh, my eyes),” she added.
Thirdly, just Kuala Lumpur in general?
She pointed out many things here, from the city’s layout to people’s behaviour.
“From time to time, you can see rubbish being randomly thrown on the streets. The building layouts in some areas look messy and lack proper planning,”
“When walking on certain roads, you can still see some uncivilised behaviour like smoking everywhere, running red lights and littering. This is far from the image of an international city that I expected,” she explained.
Now, she’s coming after our food!
To her, our local food lacked ‘enjoyment’.
“I tried various local delicacies with great joy, but was disappointed. The taste of many dishes is not as delicious as people say,”
“I am already a veteran of Guangzhou. Those special snacks did not bring any special enjoyment to my taste buds. Instead, they felt ordinary and not surprising at all,” she added.
Lastly, the hospitality
“I also faced many unpleasant things during the trip. After leaving the airport, I took a taxi and was ripped off. The attitude and service of public transportation staff were poor, and I even experienced being ripped off while shopping in some stores,”
“All these made my experience of the whole trip terrible and my mood changed. Extremely bad. It really took me a long time to get an e-hailing ride on a rainy day,” she said.
The Chinese tourist overall found her trip to be a horrible one.
“Kuala Lumpur, this trip really disappointed me. My original expectations were in vain, leaving only helplessness and regret.”
