Arise, Sir David – Beckham Officially Knighted By King Charles

Sir David Beckham Officially Knighted

Former England football captain David Beckham has officially been knighted for his services to football and British society.

The 50-year-old, who appeared on King Charles’ Birthday Honours list earlier this year, received the honour during a ceremony in Berkshire on Tuesday.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” said Beckham. “People know how patriotic I am. I love my country. I’ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family.”

Beckham’s Family Joins The Celebration At Windsor Castle

Beckham attended the ceremony with his wife Victoria Beckham, and his parents Sandra and David Beckham Sr., at Windsor Castle.

Victoria, who received her own OBE in 2017 for her contribution to the fashion industry, designed and made the suit her husband wore for the occasion.

“[King Charles] was quite impressed with my suit,” said Beckham. “He’s the most elegantly dressed man I know, and he’s inspired quite a few of my looks over the years. I looked at old pictures of him in morning suits and thought, ‘That’s what I want to wear.’ So I asked my wife to make it, and she did.”

From Football Legend To Cultural Icon

Over his illustrious career, Beckham represented England 115 times, serving as captain for six years between 2000 and 2006. He competed in three World Cups and two European Championships, leaving an enduring mark on international football.

Starting from Manchester United’s academy in 1992, Beckham went on to play 11 years with the Red Devils before moving to Real Madrid in 2003 in a £25 million transfer.

He later joined LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer, enjoying loan spells with AC Milan, and concluded his career at Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.

A Legacy Beyond The Pitch

Born in East London, Beckham’s influence extends far beyond football. He was instrumental in helping London secure the 2012 Olympic Games and has worked with UNICEF since 2005, establishing the 7 Fund in 2015 to mark a decade of partnership.

He was previously awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003, and in 2022, he made headlines for queuing over 12 hours to pay his respects to the late Queen as she lay in state.

Supporting The King’s Foundation And Beyond

In 2024, Beckham became an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, supporting King Charles’ education programs and initiatives aimed at connecting young people with nature.

Beyond philanthropy, Beckham continues to make an impact in football as a co-owner of Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and Salford City in England’s League Two, alongside former teammates including Gary Neville.
