Did you know that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has installed a whopping 5,000 AI-powered CCTVs across the city? This major tech upgrade is aimed at improving urban safety and traffic management throughout Kuala Lumpur.

In a Facebook post on December 2, DBKL revealed that the cameras are strategically placed in key locations like high-traffic areas, crime hotspots, public parks, and popular destinations such as the River of Life and various markets. These advanced CCTVs are equipped with artificial intelligence, allowing them to detect traffic violations, illegal advertisements, flooding, and even suspicious activities in real-time.

The technology is expected to drastically enhance DBKL’s response times to emergencies, enabling them to notify relevant authorities much faster. According to DBKL, these cameras offer 24/7 monitoring with 360-degree views and a range of 200 meters, using fibre-optic connectivity to deliver high-quality footage.

The Kuala Lumpur City Command Centre is responsible for monitoring the CCTV feeds around the clock. It can store video recordings for up to 45 days, and if residents need footage to report an incident, DBKL has made it easy to access through its Adu@KL website. All you need to do is provide the location, date, time, and reason for the request.
