Perak FC wingback Tommy Mawat Bada has expressed his disappointment after facing a racist comment on social media, following a confrontation with a Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) player on Sunday, 10 November.

Tommy, who hails from Sarawak, took to his Instagram Story on Monday, 11 November, to express his frustration. He stated that he is open to criticism but drew the line when it comes to racial slurs in football. He specifically highlighted one comment that referenced his Dayak ethnicity, which read, “Serves you right, that Dayak. He blocked another player for no reason.”

In his post, Tommy shared his discontent, emphasizing that while everyone is entitled to their opinions, football fans must refrain from making racist remarks.

“If you’re upset, don’t take it out on my family or my race. Yes, I’m a Dayak by birth, and it’s part of who I am. I am always proud of my heritage. So, please don’t stir up racial hatred because you will regret it later,” he said.

Tommy also appealed to fellow Dayaks, cautioning that such comments could incite unnecessary tension.

“Don’t Dayak me. What if other Dayaks saw your comment? Can you handle the consequences? Don’t be a clown and racist. May God bless you, and thank you. Please don’t spread hate among football fans.”

This incident follows an altercation between Tommy and JDT winger Arif Aiman Hanapi during the Malaysian Super League match, where Arif was seen punching Tommy in the 83rd minute. In retaliation, Tommy hit Arif’s back and choked him, before teammates and the referee intervened.

Both players received yellow cards for the incident. However, former Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) disciplinary committee chairman Kamarudin Abdullah stated that Arif should have been given a red card for his punch. He further suggested that both players might face suspensions due to their actions.
