E-Hailing Driver Turns Car Into Delivery Room And Waives Fare For New Mother

Unexpected Emergency Turns Ride Into Delivery Room

A routine morning trip turned into a life-changing moment when an e-hailing driver in Sandakan found her vehicle becoming an unexpected delivery room. The incident occurred at around 7.30 a.m. when a young woman in labour gave birth inside the moving car.

Driver Shares Heart-Pounding Experience

The driver, 39-year-old Norwin Mohamad, had only been in the e-hailing industry for about a year when she encountered the most intense moment of her career. She was waiting for passengers in Bandar Letat, Sandakan when several individuals rushed toward her car, helping a heavily pregnant woman inside as she struggled through contractions.

While heading to Duchess of Kent Hospital, the woman, believed to be in her twenties, suddenly delivered her baby. Panic quickly spread among the passengers, including the woman’s husband and father.

Staying Calm While Everyone Else Panicked

Despite the chaos, Norwin, a mother of five, remained composed.

She encouraged the family to stay calm and continued driving as quickly and safely as possible toward the hospital. But she admitted feeling worried when the newborn did not cry immediately after delivery.

She said the woman had been enduring contractions since 3 a.m. but only sought help later, likely due to being a foreign national with limited access to medical care.

Driver Refuses Payment Out Of Sympathy

Once they arrived at the hospital, Norwin did not ask for any payment.

She shared that the husband even removed his own shirt to wipe the blood from her car seat, an act that moved her with sympathy.

She said she understood their distress and did not blame them for the mess left behind. She immediately headed to have her car cleaned after the incident and hoped the baby was safe and healthy.

Public Praises Her Kindness

After posting about the incident online, Norwin unexpectedly gained attention from the public. Several car wash centres reached out, offering to clean her car for free as a gesture of appreciation for helping a mother in need.

They told her they wanted to contribute because she had helped someone else during a critical moment.
