Kim Seri Faces Backlash Over RM500,000 Scam Allegations, Blames Negative Reviews for Restaurant Losses

Malaysian influencer-turned-entrepreneur Kim Seri, based in Seoul, finds herself in hot water following allegations of scamming individuals through her now-defunct travel agency. Victims have reportedly lost nearly RM500,000. While admitting to mismanagement, Kim Seri claims the financial troubles stemmed largely from negative reviews about her restaurant.

Restaurant’s Reputation in the Spotlight
Kim Seri revealed during a TikTok live broadcast that her namesake restaurant suffered significant losses due to a string of unfavorable customer reviews, particularly on its Google page. She deflected from addressing criticisms about poor food quality and service standards, instead focusing on the impact of the reviews.

“Everything started in February. We suffered multiple losses from the restaurant, where customers left various negative reviews. The losses worsened during Ramadan because there were no customers, and they continued into the summer months,” she explained.

She added that these losses triggered a financial domino effect, affecting her other ventures, including the travel agency. “The restaurant suffered significant losses, and we had to bear the burden of monthly shop payments, salaries, very high taxes, and the purchase of raw materials,” she claimed.

RM500,000 Scam Allegations
Kim Seri’s financial troubles took a darker turn with allegations of fraud tied to her travel package business. Affected individuals have lodged 24 police reports against her, alleging losses totaling RM500,000.

In response, she has promised to refund the victims but indicated she would need time, stating, “I will refund the money within a little over a month.”

TikTok: The Sole Survival Plan
With her restaurant under new ownership and her other businesses failing, Kim Seri is turning to TikTok to recover financially. She announced plans to host live sessions to raise funds for repayments.

“Starting tomorrow, I will raise money here. I will do live sessions to run a business, and this is the only way for me to earn the money to pay back,” she said.

Interestingly, Kim Seri has disabled comments on her TikTok account, which boasts over a million followers, potentially to avoid backlash.
