Fake AI Video Shows BNM Governor “Fighting” On TV3 Set
AI Video Falsely Shows BNM Governor Fighting

Bank Negara Malaysia was forced to issue a public response after scammers used artificial intelligence to fabricate videos of Governor Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, including one bizarre clip showing him physically fighting with a guest during a television debate. According to BNM, the fake videos and social media posts used AI-generated visuals and cloned voices of the governor and several senior officials to spread false information linked to investment scams and financial fraud. The fabricated footage was set on the MHI programme on TV3 and appeared realistic enough to confuse some viewers online.
Fake Scene Included Security And Ambulance Claims
The manipulated clip allegedly showed the governor involved in a heated argument about loans and inflation before the situation escalated into a physical altercation involving overturned furniture and security intervention. The fake video even included claims that an ambulance had been called to the scene. Following the spread of the footage online, Abdul Rasheed personally appeared in a rebuttal video warning the public not to believe everything seen on the internet. “What you see online is not necessarily true,” he said while explaining that AI technology has now become advanced enough to create highly convincing fake videos, cloned voices and synthetic images.
BNM Urges Public To Stay Alert
BNM stressed that all official financial announcements and information are only shared through its verified channels and advised the public to cross-check suspicious investment content through its official website and social media accounts. The central bank also encouraged anyone who encounters fake content impersonating BNM officials to file a report through its official complaint portal. The case has also sparked wider discussions about how AI-generated scams are becoming a growing global issue, with similar fake videos previously involving public figures such as Elon Musk and world leaders circulating online. Many observers believe the fact that the BNM governor personally responded shows how serious and believable these AI-generated scams have become.
