Recently, a group of tourists from Germany experienced the woes of public transportation in Malaysia when they were denied entry onto a bus heading to Kuala Lumpur city centre at the Batu Caves bus stop in Gombak, Selangor.
Captured on TikTok by user @big_laddo, the video features three foreign tourists, a German man, and two women, disembarking from a bus after conversing with the driver. The German man, visibly frustrated, explained the ordeal in an interview.
Tourists’ patience tested
In the video’s opening, the tourists can be seen alighting from the bus after a discussion with the driver. The German man shared his frustration, stating, “We are tourists from Germany, and we waited here for the bus for a long time. Now, we are very frustrated because we can’t get on the bus.”
He continued, “There was no information about how to pay for the bus, and the bus driver just told us that we couldn’t get in. Now, we are here and don’t know how to get home.”
Bus ride denied due to lack of Touch ‘n Go cards
The tourist further explained that they were headed to Kuala Lumpur city centre, and the bus driver informed them they couldn’t board without a Touch ‘n Go card. They were unaware of the necessity of the card and how to acquire it. The German tourist expressed, “We didn’t know we needed it (the Touch ‘n Go card), we didn’t know how to get it. It would be better if it were made easier.”
Bus stop discomfort and lack of facilities
Adding to their dismay, the tourists highlighted the dismal condition of the Batu Caves bus stop, mentioning the abundance of litter, uncomfortable waiting areas with no shade or seating, and barely readable signs. The experience left them not only stranded but also unimpressed with the overall state of the bus stop.
