Malaysia’s First Female Surveyor Continues Saving Lives Through Organ Donation

Legacy Of Service Continues Beyond Her Lifetime

Hajjah Normah Abdullah, widely recognised as Malaysia’s first female surveyor and a former senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, has continued to make a meaningful contribution even after her passing through organ and tissue donation. In a tribute shared by Hospital Sungai Buloh, the late Hajjah Normah was described as an extraordinary individual whose wish to become an organ donor was fulfilled by her children following her passing on 20 June 2026. Throughout her career, she was known for educating generations of students in the field of Surveying and Geomatics at UiTM’s Faculty of Built Environment.

Donation Expected To Benefit At Least Five Patients

According to Hospital Sungai Buloh, the organs and tissues donated by Hajjah Normah are expected to save and transform the lives of at least five patients. The hospital paid tribute to her lifelong commitment to serving others, noting that while she dedicated much of her life to educating the nation’s future generations, her contributions continued even in death. The Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) also acknowledged her passing, describing her as a pioneering figure who paved the way for women in the surveying profession and left behind a significant legacy in the field.

Final Walk Of Honour Held At Hospital Sungai Buloh

Hospital Sungai Buloh also shared footage of a final walk of honour organised for Hajjah Normah, with the consent of her family. The tribute was attended by healthcare personnel and surgical teams from Hospital Sungai Buloh and Universiti Malaya, who gathered to pay their final respects before the organ procurement process. The hospital added that the successful donation marked another important milestone in the collaboration between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Hospital Sungai Buloh also expressed appreciation for the expertise and dedication of Universiti Malaya’s Hepatobiliary Surgery Team, whose involvement helped ensure the donation process could be carried out successfully.
