Johor Bahru: Flood Victims Rise to 6,847 as Rain Continues to Pour

Source: Berita Harian

The flood situation in Johor keeps unfolding like a suspenseful drama, with the number of victims reaching 6,847 individuals from 1,890 families. It’s like the whole population of a small town got caught up in this watery affair, and we’re only at 9 in the morning!

Now, picture this: 52 temporary relocation centers (TRCs) are buzzing with activity across six affected districts. It’s a whirlwind of stories, struggles, and a lot of waiting around.

Just a few hours ago, at 7 in the morning, we were looking at 6,564 affected souls from 1,819 families huddled in 51 TRCs. But hey, this flood saga is evolving faster than your favorite TV series.

Heading the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), Tan Sri Dr. Azmi Rohani, also known as the flood maestro, spilled the beans. Kota Tinggi is holding its ground as the most flood-battered area, with victims steadily climbing to 3,233 individuals from 850 families. Now that’s a full house!

Next in line is Johor Bahru, not far behind in the flood victim leaderboard. A sudden surge has brought the count to 1,853 flood-stricken souls from 507 families scattered across 10 TRCs. It’s like a competition, but one nobody wants to win.

Kluang is doing its thing too, maintaining its status with 1,633 flood victims, all snug in 14 TRCs. Meanwhile, Kulai is hanging onto its 86 affected residents at the Kampung Murni Jaya Hall. Segamat, Pontian, and even a touch of rain in the forecast – this flood narrative has it all!

Azmi, the flood maestro himself, gave us the morning rundown. Segamat is inching up slightly, with 25 victims from seven families seeking refuge at the PPS Balairaya Kampung Batu Badak.

As for Pontian, they’re chilling with 17 flood victims from four families at the PPS Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Melayu Rata Pekan Nanas. It’s like a rollercoaster of emotions in these TRCs, but with less screaming.

Despite some areas expecting sunshine, our on-ground survey suggests the weather has its own plot twist. Clouds are gathering, hinting at a potential afternoon rain shower. Talk about suspense!

Yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued an orange-level warning, predicting continuous heavy rain in Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, and Kota Tinggi until today. Meanwhile, a yellow-level warning forecasts ongoing rain in Johor Bahru, Kulai, Pontian, Batu Pahat, Muar, and Tangkak.

Stay tuned for more updates on this riveting flood chronicle, where rain is the protagonist, and we’re all just trying to stay dry in this unpredictable plot!
