Johor DAP Youth Treasurer Found Dead Amid RM700,000 Debt Struggles
A somber wave has swept through Malaysia’s political and real estate circles following the sudden passing of Toh Wen Hui, a 34-year-old real estate agent and Johor DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) treasurer, who was found deceased in Ayer Keroh, Melaka on the evening of 9 April 2025.
Final Call, Final Location
The incident began with a heartbreaking call from Toh to his mother, where he expressed the mental toll of an unpaid RM700,000 debt, mentioning his intent to end his life. His family had already helped settle RM200,000, but the pressure appeared overwhelming.
Worried for his safety, the family used tracking tools to locate his vehicle, which eventually led them to the car parked near a hotel in Melaka. Relatives in the vicinity were alerted, and emergency services were contacted.

Authorities Respond, But It Was Too Late
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, ACP Christopher Patit, confirmed that the police were alerted after Toh’s cousin reported his car’s location.
At 10:37 PM, a team of six firefighters from the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene and managed to open the locked car. Unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed that Toh had already passed away.
Police have ruled out foul play and are classifying the case as sudden death.
Grief and Tribute From the Community
News of Toh’s passing has deeply impacted the political community. Johor DAPSY and Bakri MP Tan Hong Pin expressed condolences on social media.
“You left us with warmth and light. Always optimistic and kind, you contributed to society silently but meaningfully,” wrote Tan.
Toh’s funeral is being held over four days at the Nirvana Memorial Center in Skudai, Johor, allowing friends, family, and the public to pay their final respects.
A Reminder of Silent Struggles
This tragedy has reopened important conversations around mental health, debt stress, and emotional burnout, particularly among professionals and public figures who may carry silent burdens.
