M’sian Woman Lived as “Dead” for 15 Years After JPN Allegedly Issued Death Certificate

A Malaysian woman has allegedly spent the past 15 years living as a “dead person” in the eyes of authorities after the National Registration Department (JPN) reportedly issued a death certificate in her name back in 2009, despite her being alive.

Alleged Death Certificate Issued in 2009

The case was brought to public attention through a TikTok post by social activist Datuk Dr Kalai Vanar, who said the woman approached him in tears after years of attempting to resolve the issue with JPN.

According to him, the alleged death certificate stated that the woman had died on 15 September 2009 at 11:50 AM, with the cause of death listed as suicide. However, the woman is reportedly still alive today.

“She Has Been Alive All This While”

In the video, Datuk Dr Kalai Vanar displayed what appeared to be a copy of the woman’s alleged death certificate and claimed that the authorities had failed to properly address her situation.

He said the woman, who is 35 years old and Muslim, had repeatedly gone back and forth with JPN over the years but received little to no assistance in correcting the record.

“For 15 years, she suffered while going back and forth with JPN, but it is said that JPN does not care at all,” he stated.

Life as a “Living Ghost”

According to the activist, the alleged administrative error has caused the woman severe hardship, effectively leaving her without proper legal recognition for over a decade.

He added that the Secretariat of National Loyalty (SBKN) is prepared to assist her and bring attention to the case.

An exposé involving the victim is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 31 December 2025, where further details are expected to be revealed.
