Mother Attempts Suicide with Her 3 Kids in KL River — All Rescued in Time

A potentially tragic situation was averted on Sunday (May 25) when a Myanmar woman attempted to end her life by jumping into Sungai Bunus in Kuala Lumpur with her three young children. Fortunately, all four individuals were rescued in time by the swift action of the Titiwangsa Fire and Rescue Department (BBP).

The incident, reported on BBP Titiwangsa’s official Facebook page, detailed how the department received an emergency call and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the woman already in the river with her children.

Rescuers described the situation as tense, with the woman reacting aggressively and even attempting to harm one of her children. Thanks to the quick intervention of firefighters, assisted by the PPDA unit from Jalan Hang Tuah BBP, the family was safely pulled from the water. The woman was then handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) for medical and psychiatric care.

Authorities suspect that the woman had been suffering from intense emotional and mental distress, which led to the drastic act. Her children, visibly shaken, also required immediate psychological attention.

A representative from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) emphasized the importance of early mental health intervention, stating, “Mental health should never be treated lightly. Early help and emotional support are key to preventing such tragedies.”

A medical team conducted initial assessments at the site, while JKM and police officials began offering the necessary support to the family.

This incident highlights the urgent need for community awareness surrounding mental health issues. Malaysians are reminded that resources like Befrienders KL are available around the clock for anyone in emotional distress.
