A Korean influencer faces backlash after paying underprivileged Filipino mothers to drink their breast milk for online videos.

A Korean influencer based in the Philippines is facing widespread condemnation after publishing videos showing himself paying impoverished Filipino mothers to drink their breast milk — all for the sake of content.

According to a report by JTBC News on 9 May, the man offered 500 pesos (around RM40) to mothers in exchange for their milk. The videos, nearly 30 of which were dedicated to this controversial theme, show him consuming the milk in front of the mothers and their children. In some clips, he even mixes the milk with alcohol as part of mukbang content.

The influencer, whose identity remains undisclosed, claims to have over eight years of livestreaming experience and more than 4,000 videos uploaded. He defends his actions by saying that he merely intended to support unemployed mothers financially and described himself as “Santa Claus” or a “kind uncle” helping those in need.

“I am very popular in the Philippines,” he told JTBC, while insisting the videos are being misunderstood due to cultural differences and denying any sexual connotations behind his content.

However, the backlash has been swift and harsh. Critics argue that what he calls ‘support’ is, in fact, deeply exploitative. Many have pointed out that the mothers and their children were filmed without their faces being blurred, raising serious concerns about consent and dignity.

Former Seoul police official Kim Eun-bae called the influencer’s actions damaging. “Handing money to the child instead of the mother undermines the dignity of both the mothers and their children. This behaviour risks encouraging further exploitation and harms South Korea’s image abroad,” Kim stated.

The videos have reignited broader discussions around content ethics, consent, and the line between entertainment and exploitation — especially when involving vulnerable communities.
