Penang woman jailed for pouring hot water on disabled man, fined RM6,000
Recently, there was news about a woman throwing boiling water on a man with Down Syndrome in an elevator of a Penang apartment. The man got badly burned on his neck and body.
The woman, who did this cruel act in an apartment lift on Jalan Rajawali, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined RM6,000 by the Sessions Court on Tuesday. Judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin made this ruling after the accused, Oo Saw Kee, 39, admitted to causing injury to A Solairaj, 33, with hot water.
It was later revealed by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) that the woman did this due to a misunderstanding over a sensitive issue that happened 3 to 4 years ago. Now, she has to face the consequences.
As per a report by Sinar Harian, the 39-year-old woman pleaded guilty to assaulting the 33-year-old man with disabilities and was sentenced accordingly under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
The victim, a 33-year-old unemployed man with Down Syndrome, was treated at Penang Hospital (HPP) and is now stable.
“His burns on the right side of his body were from hot water, not acid, as confirmed by treatment at HPP,” said South West District Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Jafri Md Zain.
The police are investigating the incident under Section 324 of the Penal Code, but no arrests have been made yet. However, the suspect, a 39-year-old woman, was arrested on Friday night and remanded the next day to assist in the investigation.
