These crocodiles, part of the local wildlife, have been spotted sneaking into areas close to the riverbank where residents keep their livestock.
Muhammad Nur Iman Ahmad, a 24-year-old livestock breeder, recounted losing three goats to these saltwater crocodiles within three months.
“We have several crocodiles lurking along the river, posing a risk to our lives as they venture closer to the riverbank,” he expressed on Wednesday (May 15), highlighting his loss of nearly RM5,000 due to the crocodile attacks.
Another resident, Nozlan Ibrahim, emphasized that those living along the riverbanks rely on the river for their livelihood.
“In the past, we didn’t worry much about attacks, but now these reptiles are becoming more aggressive. We hope the relevant authorities take swift action,” said the 53-year-old.
Hamzah Ibrahim, deputy chairman of the Klebang Besar Development and Safety committee, indicated that based on the frequency of sightings, there could be four to five crocodiles in the area.
“These crocodiles are displaying aggressive behavior and have been attacking livestock,” he added, urging authorities to address the situation promptly.
