Missing Teen Breaks Silence, Says She Won’t Come Home
The mystery surrounding Hu Yi En, the 18-year-old girl who went missing in Penang on June 28, took a dramatic turn when she posted a lengthy message on Facebook, telling her family that she is safe — but won’t be coming back.
The post included a short video and a heartfelt note revealing her emotional struggles and frustrations growing up. Yi En made it clear that while she is not in danger, she has no intention of revealing her location or returning home.
“Not Every House is a Home”
In her viral post, Yi En described her home life as emotionally painful, saying that she had never truly felt loved by her mother.
“Remember what you said to me when I was only 10? You said I couldn’t get anything right and should’ve just dropped dead,” she wrote.
Though her mother later explained it was said in anger, Yi En confessed she never forgot the hurtful words and still questions what she did to deserve them.
She shared that she was often scolded and denied access to a mobile phone, even while her younger brother was allowed one. This inequality, she said, contributed to her growing sense of resentment and isolation.

Yi En’s message strongly conveyed her desire to cut ties and move on independently.
“I’m 18 now. Let me go, and you don’t need to spend a dime on me anymore.”
She also mentioned feeling like a financial burden, especially when reminded how much money had been spent on her. Her post suggested that such reminders made her feel less like a daughter and more like a debt.
“I don’t want to hear another word about how much money you’ve spent on me.”
Concerned Family Feared Job Scam
Yi En’s mother had earlier lodged a police report, fearing her daughter might have fallen prey to a job scam syndicate, particularly in Cambodia — a common concern involving missing youths lured abroad with fake job offers.
With the resurfacing of Yi En’s video and statement, the case takes a new direction — one now centered on emotional conflict rather than criminal activity.
