Tan Sri Musa Aman, the former Chief Minister of Sabah, has officially been appointed as the 11th Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah. The appointment was formalized when Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, handed over the Letter of Appointment to Musa Aman today.

Musa, 73, who previously served as the Member of the Sabah Legislative Assembly for Sungai Sibuga, was awarded the Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) honor by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which confers him the title of Tun.

Musa’s appointment comes after the current Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, completes his term. Tun Juhar, who has held the position since 2011, will step down on December 31, making him the longest-serving Yang Dipertua Negeri to date.

Musa Aman’s tenure as Chief Minister of Sabah, which spanned from 2003 to 2018, remains one of the longest in the state’s history. He took his oath of office this morning in a ceremony at Istana Negara, swearing allegiance to the responsibilities of his new role.
