“Namewee’s Comical Apology: Tears, Laughter, and a Public Reckoning”

Back in September last year (2023), Namewee got into a legal tangle for his YouTube video where he went all out against concert organiser Star Planet and their boss, Datuk Alan Foo. This was after his 4896 Final Call World Tour in 2019 got canceled at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Fast forward a month, Star Planet emerged victorious in the defamation lawsuit, and Namewee has to cough up compensation and issue a public apology.

In classic Namewee style, he just dropped an apology video on Facebook that’s pure comedy gold. In this gem, he seems to be shedding crocodile tears.

He opens up in the video, saying, “I hereby apologise, unequivocally and unreservedly, to the plaintiffs, Datuk Foo Ming Lam and Star Planet Sdn Bhd, for the video published by me on December 14, 2019, and December 21, 2019. And (I) hereby state that the statements made in those videos are wrong and should not have been published by me.”

Then, he pauses, looks at the camera, and starts sniffing and fake crying. It’s a performance worth an Oscar. He even reaches out his hand to the camera, all the while maintaining the act of ‘crying’. Finally, he whispers a dramatic “Sorry” to wrap it up. Classic Namewee, always adding his unique touch!
