Surveillance Footage Captures Underwear Thief in Disguise

A man dressed in a high-visibility vest and what appears to be a maintenance uniform has been caught on CCTV at The Rise 1 condominium in George Town, Penang, stealing women’s underwear. The footage, now circulating among residents, has left the community shaken and suspicious of even legitimate workers in uniform.

The thief’s disguise allowed him to move around the premises without raising immediate suspicion, but his real motive quickly became clear.

Lingerie Theft Pattern Continues Across Penang

This isn’t the first incident of its kind. Penang has seen multiple similar cases where thieves target undergarments, often at night, exploiting lax security or blending in as service staff. While some perpetrators have been caught in the past, residents are frustrated by what they see as lenient punishments, such as one culprit who only received a month-long jail sentence.

The recurring nature of these crimes raises concerns over whether current laws act as an effective deterrent for such violations of privacy.

Authorities Notified, Residents on High Alert

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng confirmed that authorities have been alerted and a police report has been lodged. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, especially during nighttime and to verify the identity of any maintenance personnel spotted near laundry areas.

“If you see someone suspicious, particularly wearing a vest and loitering near laundry zones, contact police immediately,” Teh urged. The public can reach the police via 04-228 2222 or 04-218 1881.

Calls for Stricter Enforcement and Condo Security

With the frequency of such incidents increasing, residents are now demanding enhanced security protocols, including better surveillance systems and stricter access controls for service workers.

Some are even calling for harsher sentencing to send a stronger message to would-be offenders.
