PERHILITAN Sets Up Trap To Capture Wild Crocodile Near Mid Valley & KL Eco City

A rare and unexpected sighting of a 3-meter-long crocodile near The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley Megamall, and KL Eco City has sparked concern among city residents and caught the attention of wildlife authorities.
Crocodile Spotted in Sungai Klang, Public Warned to Stay Away
The crocodile was seen swimming in Sungai Klang between KL Eco City and The Gardens Mall on 20 February, causing panic among the public. Within hours, the news spread like wildfire on social media, attracting curious onlookers who gathered on the bridge to catch a glimpse of the reptile.
Authorities have since advised the public to stay clear of the area to avoid any potential danger.
PERHILITAN Takes Immediate Action
Following the sighting, the Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN) swiftly deployed a trap to capture the crocodile, fearing it may pose a threat if left roaming in the urban river.
According to Federal Territories PERHILITAN director Ishak Muhammad, the National Wildlife Rescue Centre has also been involved in the operation.
“We believe the crocodile has strayed from its natural habitat. Together with the Civil Defence Force, we have deployed a boat to monitor its movements and ensure public safety.”
“The public is strongly advised to avoid any activities near the river until the crocodile is safely removed,” he added.
Similar Sightings in Kuala Lumpur?
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a crocodile has been spotted in Sungai Klang. Earlier this month, on 8 February, a similar incident occurred near Masjid Jamek, where PERHILITAN was placed on high alert after a viral video captured a crocodile swimming near the city center.
Authorities suspect that it could be the same crocodile that has now appeared in Mid Valley, though further monitoring is being conducted.
