“Rename KL ‘Tanpa Lumpur’ If It’s Moved!” – Malaysian Politician Calls for Relocation Due to Disasters

Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, the Speaker of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, has stirred up quite a buzz by suggesting that Kuala Lumpur should be relocated to a disaster-free zone.

In a recent Facebook post, Puad proposed that Kuala Lumpur should be moved out of its current valley location to avoid frequent floods and landslides. He cheekily suggested renaming it “TL” which stands for “Tanpa Lumpur” (Without Mud).

Puad also took a jab at Dr Zaliha Mustafa, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Federal Territories, for not inspecting the landslide disaster on Jalan Masjid India. He argued that Dr Zaliha should have been the first on the scene, especially since the area is popular with tourists and the victim was also a tourist.

According to Puad, the recurring disasters not only tarnish KL’s image but also hurt local businesses. He questioned the effectiveness of the solutions being implemented, pointing to recent flash floods at the World Trade Center (WTC) as an example of the ongoing issues.

He drew a comparison to Indonesia’s move of its capital from Jakarta to Kalimantan due to earthquake threats, warning that Malaysia might fall behind if it doesn’t address these problems soon.

What do you think of Puad’s bold suggestion?
