Starbucks Shuts Down Its Last Kelantan Outlet Amid Boycott Movement

The Starbucks outlet at KB Mall, Kota Bharu, marked the end of an era as it officially ceased operations on 30 November. This closure signifies the coffee giant’s complete exit from Kelantan, reportedly influenced by an ongoing boycott movement that has already led to the closure of 50 outlets nationwide, up from 25 previously, according to Sin Chew.
Surprisingly, the outlet stopped serving coffee three days before its closure. Patrons could only order non-coffee beverages during this period, as the coffee beans were already grounded.
A Heartfelt Farewell
The closure was particularly emotional for the employees, many of whom had worked at the KB Mall outlet for years. Some chose to resign rather than be transferred to other branches, citing personal reasons and an unwillingness to relocate out of state.
This isn’t an isolated incident, as two other Starbucks outlets near the commercial district have also recently closed. On the final day, loyal customers came to enjoy one last beverage, offering their support and bidding farewell to what was once a favorite hangout spot in Kota Bharu.
The closure marks a significant chapter in Kelantan’s retail history, sparking discussions about the impact of boycott movements and their influence on global brands.
