Gerrard Confident Ahead Of Kuala Lumpur Match
Steven Gerrard has already fired an early warning ahead of the upcoming AllStar Legends football clash in Kuala Lumpur this October. The former Liverpool F.C. captain confidently said the AllStar Premier Legends side “won’t lose” if he is part of the squad facing the AllStar World Legends. Speaking during a promotional appearance in Malaysia, Gerrard joked that things become even more serious if there are too many Manchester United F.C. legends on the opposite side. “If I’m here and I’m part of it, which I hope I will be, we won’t lose. Especially if they’ve got many Manchester United players playing for them,” he said with a laugh.
Football Legends Set To Arrive In Malaysia
The exhibition match is scheduled to take place on 3 October 2026 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium. Several football legends have already been confirmed for the event, including Jaap Stam, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Ian Harte for the AllStar Premier Legends side. Meanwhile, the AllStar World Legends squad is expected to feature names such as Dida, Javier Saviola and Maicon. More players are also expected to be announced closer to the match date.
“Friendliness Stops After The Whistle”
Gerrard also admitted that despite retiring more than a decade ago, his competitive mentality has never disappeared. According to him, former elite footballers naturally return to “match mode” once the whistle blows, even during exhibition games. “When that first whistle goes, all the friendliness stops,” he said. Gerrard explained that the hunger to compete and win has remained part of his personality since childhood, long before becoming a professional footballer. He added that being surrounded by elite players during his time with Liverpool and England only strengthened that mentality over the years.
