Viral TikTok Video Shows Kindness of Surau Towards Young Mother
A viral TikTok video melted the hearts of Malaysians after revealing how a surau in Kedah sheltered a frightened young Indian woman and her newborn baby. The video, posted by @shownbotak, shows committee members of Surau Madrasatul Huda in Alor Setar providing food, milk, and temporary shelter for the mother and child.
Their act of compassion has drawn widespread praise for showing humanity that transcends race and religion.
“Please Don’t Chase Me Away” — Her Plea For Help
According to Harian Metro, the 20-year-old woman was found crouching and hiding behind a car near the surau secretary’s home. She reportedly looked frightened and softly begged, “Please don’t chase me away.”
Shamsul Anuar Aziz, who shared the story, recounted how he saw her walking slowly past the surau after Maghrib prayers. Sensing something was wrong, he later found her behind a car in the dark, visibly distressed and carrying her baby wrapped in a towel.
Struggling Single Mother With Nowhere to Go
After gaining her trust, Shamsul invited her into the surau for safety. He described her as quiet, likely due to trauma and fear.
Eventually, she revealed that she had been living with a friend but fled due to safety concerns. Her husband is currently in prison, and she had no money or baby supplies.
Her situation left her with no choice but to seek help wherever she could — and that led her to the surau that night.
Community Stepped In With Compassion and Action
The surau members responded swiftly with kindness. They bought baby formula, fresh diapers, and provided a clean, quiet space for the mother and child to rest.
Once she shared that she had a brother in Penang, the surau members contacted him and bought her a train ticket that same night. They personally ensured that she boarded the train safely with her baby in tow.
Netizens Praise the Act of Unity and Empathy
The video’s comment section quickly filled with praise and admiration. Many TikTok users expressed how moved they were by the surau’s actions, with some offering further help when she reached Penang.
Users also highlighted that such stories show the best of Malaysia — a reminder that kindness knows no religious or cultural boundaries.
