Fahmi Disappointed with RM100 Fine for Esha’s Cyberbully
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed his disappointment today over the RM100 fine given for the cyberbullying case of TikTok influencer A Rajeswary, also known as Esha, who reportedly ended her own life.
“I’m disappointed with the small fine, but I understand from the Attorney-General’s Chambers that the punishment was based on the evidence collected. We need to rethink what cyberbullying means and what the appropriate punishment should be,” Fahmi said at a press conference following his keynote address at the KL Startup Summit 2024.
P Shalini received the fine after pleading guilty to making insulting remarks with the intent to incite anger and disturb peace. She, who works at an old folks’ home, was accused of posting offensive comments on her TikTok account, alphaquinnsha, at 4am on July 1.
Rajeswary, 29, was found dead at her home in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, on July 5. The Hindu rights activist had filed a police report the day before, accusing two individuals of harassing her on TikTok.
