Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Passes Away at the Age of 85 at IJN

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 APRIL 2025 – The nation has lost a statesman as the fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, passed away at 7:10 PM yesterday at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

The sad news was conveyed by his son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, via an Instagram Story post, asking for prayers and the recitation of Al-Fatihah for the deceased.

“May Allah have mercy on him and place him among the souls of the faithful and the righteous,” Khairy wrote briefly.

The late Tun Abdullah, affectionately known as Pak Lah, was 85 years old and had been battling dementia for several years, which made it difficult for him to remember the names and faces of family members.

Brief Background:

Pak Lah became Malaysia’s Prime Minister in 2003, succeeding Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad after 22 years of his administration. He is remembered as a leader with a gentle spirit, moderate principles, and for introducing the Islam Hadhari approach to the country’s administration. His significant contributions include reforms in the civil service system, strengthening integrity within government services, and empowering higher education institutions.
