Uncle Kentang Opens His Home for a CNY Reunion Dinner
Malaysian philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, is once again touching hearts after announcing that he will be hosting a Chinese New Year reunion dinner at his own home for those who have nowhere else to celebrate.
A Divorced Man’s Message Sparked The Idea
Uncle Kentang shared on Facebook that a divorced man had recently reached out to him, saying he had no home to return to for the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The message moved him deeply.
Instead of letting the man spend the festive season alone, Uncle Kentang decided to take action. He chose to organise a reunion dinner at his humble residence in Puchong so that others in similar situations could gather together.
“I Want Everyone To Feel At Home”
In his Facebook post, Uncle Kentang explained why he chose to host the dinner at his own home rather than at a restaurant.
“It’s our blessing to be able to hold this dinner for those who don’t have a place to celebrate. I could have held it at a restaurant, but it wouldn’t have the feeling of home. I want everyone to feel at home,” he wrote.
He also shared that he sought his daughter’s consent and support before making the decision.
“I asked for my daughter’s consent and help. Thankfully, she agreed and is more than willing to assist.”
Limited To 40 Guests
Uncle Kentang mentioned that he expects up to 40 people and requested that no more than that number contact him if they wish to attend.
“We don’t live in this world alone. We live as a community, and our neighbours are those who share the same time and space with us. Be kind to others, and God will be kind to us,” he added.
For those who wish to contribute, he welcomed donations such as food, cookies, or small red packets. He can be contacted at 018-2683999.
