Hungry Wild Elephant Attacks Car at Perak RnR While Owner Sleeps Inside

Malaysians stopping at the Amiza Titiwangsa Rest and Relaxation (RnR) area in Gerik, Perak, were left shaken after a wild elephant wandered into the parking area and attacked a parked car while its owner was still inside.

Elephant Drawn by Food Smell at RnR

According to Facebook user Mohd Amir Faizal, who was present during the incident, the elephant is believed to have entered the RnR after being attracted by the smell of food waste from rubbish bins and durians kept inside the victim’s car. He added that this was not the first time elephants had been spotted entering the area in search of food.

Initially, the elephant was seen rummaging through rubbish bins and taking several packages of food waste before turning its attention to a Honda City parked nearby.

Owner Woke Up to Car Shaking

Mohd Amir explained that the car owner had been sleeping in the driver’s seat, resting after a long drive from Kelantan to Manjung, Perak, to return to his hometown.

The victim reportedly woke up when he felt the car shaking violently. Believing someone was trying to break into the vehicle, he grabbed the driver’s side window to defend himself, only to realise moments later that the “intruder” was in fact a wild elephant.

Elephant Safely Chased Away

Fortunately, Mohd Amir Faizal, who is also a volunteer with a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), assisted others at the scene in chasing the elephant away from the RnR area. No injuries were reported, although the vehicle sustained damage.

The incident has since gone viral online, with many Malaysians expressing concern over safety at RnR areas located near forested regions and urging greater caution when stopping overnight.
