The tragedy of the PETRONAS gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, which occurred on the morning of 2 Syawal, has sparked controversy and speculation among netizens. A local resident who has lived there for over 20 years has come forward to criticize online commenters who made inaccurate assumptions about the incident. In a Facebook post that garnered much attention, an individual with the account name @diana.ishak criticized netizens who blamed the developer and the local residents for supposedly choosing to live near a risky area.
She explained that for two decades, the gas pipeline area had always been fenced and kept at a safe distance from residential areas. However, the situation began to change in recent months when a shop lot construction project started being built too close to the gas pipeline area. She further mentioned that this development raised concerns among the residents, and formal complaints were made, but there was no clear action from the authorities. She also claimed that the fire was not caused by negligence from the residents or PETRONAS, but was believed to have been caused by interference with the fenced-off pipeline area by irresponsible parties.
Additionally, five houses in the Putra Harmoni area, which is quite far from the incident site, were also destroyed by the fire that spread and debris carried by the wind. She also uploaded a clear photo comparing the original location of the gas pipeline and the newly built shops, reinforcing the claim that this new development was actually the main risk that led to the unfortunate incident.
