Indonesian drama actress Sekar Arum Widara, 41, is under police investigation after being arrested for allegedly using counterfeit money during a shopping trip in South Jakarta.

The incident, which happened on 2 April, drew widespread attention after Sekar was reportedly caught attempting to use fake cash in three separate transactions on the same day.

Store Cashier Alerted Security Just in Time

According to Inspector Teddy Rohendi, Head of the Crime Investigation Unit of the South Jakarta Metro Police, Sekar’s actions were noticed before any purchase could be completed.

“The suspect is believed to have made three attempts to pay with fake notes. Thankfully, the cashier noticed something was off and alerted security immediately,” he told local reporters.

Security guards detained Sekar on the spot and handed her over to police for further investigation.

Counterfeit Cash and Other Items Found in Her Bag

Following her arrest, authorities conducted a search of Sekar’s handbag. The results were shocking — they found counterfeit bills totaling approximately RM59,000, along with a mobile phone and other personal items.

Sekar: “I Got the Money from a Friend”

In her initial statement, Sekar claimed she did not know the money was fake and alleged that it was given to her by a friend.Despite this claim, police have not ruled out the possibility of a larger syndicate being involved. Investigations are ongoing to determine the actual source of the counterfeit currency and whether more suspects are linked to the case.
