“June 3rd Declared Public Holiday for Agong’s Birthday Despite Coronation in July”

The Prime Minister’s Department has confirmed that June 3rd will remain a public holiday to celebrate the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday this year.

In a statement released on May 16th, the Prime Minister’s Department announced that the coronation of the 17th King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, will take place on July 20th at the Istana Negara.

“As we know, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim took and signed the oath of office as the 17th King of Malaysia on January 31, 2024,” the statement said.

“Therefore, with His Majesty’s consent, the government will organize several events in conjunction with the coronation.”

To accommodate the coronation, the celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday, usually held in June, will be postponed to September.

Since 2021, the official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been celebrated on the first Monday of June and is a gazetted public holiday.
