Fashion Store Suffers Nearly RM1 Million Loss After Truck Disappears

Fashion Store Forced To Shut Down After Major Loss

After operating for more than eight years, fashion goods store Steal Plug has announced that it will be shutting down following a devastating inventory loss that reportedly left the company unable to continue operating. According to an Instagram post shared by the business owner, the incident happened while the company was in the middle of relocating its warehouse and office to Bukit Indah. The owner revealed he had to urgently return to Malaysia while on holiday in Thailand after receiving news from employees that a truck carrying business stock had suddenly disappeared.

Trusted Individual Allegedly Vanished With Inventory

According to the owner, the elderly man hired to manage the relocation process had previously worked with the company before and was trusted by them. However, the individual allegedly disappeared together with the truck and inventory and has reportedly remained unreachable until now. Initial investigations also revealed that the truck driver working that day was allegedly another victim, as his salary was reportedly never paid by his employer. The missing inventory is estimated to be worth between RM800,000 and RM900,000, with some reports suggesting losses may have nearly reached RM1 million. The situation became even more difficult because many of the missing items were consignment stock and supplier goods that had not yet been fully paid for.

Clearance Sale Held To Cover Massive Debt

Realising the business could no longer survive under the financial burden, Steal Plug decided to liquidate its remaining products through a massive clearance sale running from May 11 until May 14. According to the owner, the final sale is an attempt to recover at least 50% to 60% of the company’s losses in order to repay suppliers and consignment partners. Remaining losses will reportedly have to be personally absorbed by the owner himself. Products including shoes and clothing are now being sold below cost price, with discounts reaching up to 60%. In one example shared by the company, shoes previously priced at RM1,000 are now being sold for around RM300 to RM400. The owner also appealed to customers and suppliers for support and patience while trying to settle outstanding debts gradually.
