3 Singapore Food Riders Lose Over RM360 After Alleged Loan Shark COD Scam Using Malaysian Number

Three Riders Sent To The Same Condominium Unit

Three food delivery riders in Singapore allegedly became victims of a fake Cash on Delivery (COD) scheme believed to be linked to loan shark harassment. The incident reportedly happened on 6 July at around 3.45pm after orders placed using a Malaysian phone number were delivered to the same condominium unit. The case gained attention after TikTok user Klinsmann (@klins_05) shared a series of videos explaining what had happened. According to 21-year-old Foodpanda rider Klinsmann Tay, he collected a food order from a restaurant at Ng Teng Fong Hospital before heading to the delivery address. When he arrived, the homeowner told him the named tenant did not place any order and was not even at home.

Two More Riders Arrived Minutes Later

Tay then attempted to contact the customer but discovered the registered phone number was from Malaysia and could not be reached. After speaking to the homeowner, he began suspecting the address had been targeted as part of an illegal loan shark harassment tactic. His suspicion was strengthened when two more delivery riders from different platforms arrived at the exact same unit within minutes. One was carrying a COD order worth SGD50 (about RM157.60), while another arrived with a separate COD order valued at SGD65 (about RM204.88). Realising all three orders appeared to be fake, Tay advised the other riders to either eat the food themselves or donate it instead of letting it go to waste. Security personnel later arrived at the condominium to manage the situation.

Rider Calls For COD System To Be Removed

Speaking to Stomp, Tay said the incident caused him to waste nearly 20 minutes dealing with cancellation procedures, costing him around SGD20 (about RM65) in lost earnings. He urged delivery platforms to abolish the COD payment option, arguing that riders end up losing both time and fuel whenever they become victims of fake orders. Tay also revealed that this was the third time he had encountered a similar incident and believes many other riders have also fallen victim to the same tactic allegedly used by illegal loan shark syndicates.
