2 Drivers Arrested After Blocking Traffic To Make Way For Supercars In Johor

They Allegedly Stopped Traffic Just To Let The Convoy Pass

Two drivers landed themselves in trouble after allegedly taking traffic control into their own hands for a luxury car convoy in Johor. The incident came to light after a video appeared on Threads at 6.16pm on 14 August. The clip reportedly showed the pair stopping other vehicles at Bulatan Lebuh Kota Iskandar to allow the convoy to pass through. Iskandar Puteri deputy police chief Supt Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya said traffic officers launched an operation shortly after receiving reports about the incident. Police investigations later found that the luxury car convoy was travelling from Puteri Harbour towards Johor Bahru city centre. During the journey, the two men allegedly blocked traffic to make way for the group.

Police Say The Move Put Other Road Users At Risk

According to Saifullah, the actions of the two drivers endangered both themselves and other road users. Police subsequently arrested the pair over the incident. Authorities are now investigating the case under Section 110 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for traffic obstruction. Anyone convicted of the offence can face a fine of up to RM1,000. The incident also led to more trouble involving the vehicles. Police issued four summonses after finding non-compliance with vehicle specifications. Authorities also seized the vehicles for further action as part of the investigation.

Police Warn Against Playing Traffic Marshal

Police have since reminded the public not to act as unauthorised escorts or traffic marshals on public roads. They also warned that authorities will show zero tolerance towards anyone who decides to control traffic without permission. While luxury and supercar convoys aren’t unusual on Malaysian roads, drivers still need to follow the same traffic rules as everyone else. In this case, what appeared to be an attempt to give the convoy a clear route ended with two arrests, four summonses and vehicles being seized. So if you’re travelling in a convoy, probably best to leave traffic control to the people who actually have the authority to do it.
