KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) — The recent dismissal of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United’s manager has stirred excitement among Red Devils fans in Malaysia. After two and a half years with the Premier League club, Ten Hag’s departure comes as the team sits at a disappointing 14th place, securing only three wins from nine matches.

President of the Manchester United Malaysia Supporters Club, Raf Yaakob, described the decision as justified given the club’s poor form. “This was expected after a series of United’s defeats. Although the new management gave Ten Hag a fair shot, the results weren’t convincing,” he explained to Bernama. “We want to see if the issue lies with underperforming players or Ten Hag’s management style.”

In Ten Hag’s absence, Ruud Van Nistelrooy will step in as interim head coach, supported by the existing coaching team, while the club searches for a permanent manager.

Long-time United fan and former New Straits Times sports editor Lazarus Rokk shared his excitement, calling the news “the best football news of my life since Ten Hag took charge at Old Trafford.” His sentiment reflects the relief of many loyal fans who hope to see their beloved team rise once again.

Manchester United’s Facebook post announcing Ten Hag’s sacking quickly gained over 72,000 likes, 18,000 comments, and 10,000 shares within two hours. In one of the comments, Facebook user Sukri Rasidin agreed with the decision but stressed that players also need to improve, especially in terms of fitness. “Many players could be let go. Their fitness levels are poor. They walk more than they run. This is modern football—speed and agility are key,” he wrote.

As United also struggles in the Europa League, they currently rank 21st out of 36 teams with three draws in their first three matches, adding pressure for the incoming manager to turn things around.
