Amy Mastura’s Surprising Cameo in Japanese Drama Goes Viral Again Years Later

Malaysian actress and singer Amy Mastura has found herself back in the spotlight after a clip from a Japanese drama resurfaced on social media — revealing her unexpected cameo with a plot twist that stunned netizens.

The scene, taken from The Files of Young Kindaichi Neo (Season 4), was filmed at KLCC Park in Kuala Lumpur and has since gone viral after being reshared on platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @najmi.

Amy Mastura Was “The Puppet from Hell”?

In the 45-second viral clip, Amy is seen portraying a friendly toy vendor speaking in a mix of Malay, English, and Japanese — even saying “Arigatou” in a cheerful tone.

But here’s the kicker: her character’s face wasn’t even real.

In a shocking twist, it’s revealed that Amy’s character was actually a disguise — a human mask worn by a male antagonist, known as “The Puppet from Hell.”

The scene turns eerie as Amy’s face is peeled away, exposing the true villain underneath. That moment alone sent netizens into a nostalgic frenzy.

“Every time I see Amy Mastura, I think about this wild scene,” one user commented.

A Hidden Gem from a Japanese TV Special

The show was actually a TV Special episode from the Japanese detective series Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo: Gokumon Juku Satsujin Jiken — part of The Files of Young Kindaichi Neo Season 4.

Much of the special was filmed in Malaysia, with Amy’s scene shot at the iconic KLCC Park.

Amy Reflects on Her Experience

Speaking to Berita Harian, Amy said the experience left a lasting impression, even though she doesn’t recall all the exact details.

“The production was incredibly organized. They had detailed KLCC maps and even restricted the public from taking photos during filming.”

Interestingly, she revealed that she was the only cast member allowed to take photos with fans during the shoot.

“Even fans of the Japanese actors wanted photos — but only I was permitted until the shoot ended. It was such a rare and respectful experience,” Amy shared.

Although her role was brief, Amy described it as “small but meaningful,” and said she was honored to be part of the project.
