Father Cuts Ties with Daughter After She Uses His Name to Secure RM250,000 Loan Shark Debt

A 63-year-old father in Kuala Lumpur has publicly disowned his daughter after her gambling addiction led to massive debts, dragging him into trouble with loan sharks.

According to The Star Lan Chee Kong, the father, had already spent his retirement savings and borrowed money from relatives to help his 24-year-old daughter clear her RM250,000 debt. However, he was devastated to learn that she had recently taken out another loan, this time using his name as collateral.

Daughter Used Father’s Identity Without His Knowledge

Speaking at a press conference at Wisma MCA on 4 March, Lan revealed how he confronted his daughter at her home to understand why loan sharks were harassing him. That was when he discovered she had provided her father’s identity card details to the illegal lenders, making it appear as though he was responsible for the debt.

“In my entire life, I have never experienced anything like this. My own daughter betrayed me and used my name without my consent,” he lamented.

Shocking Betrayal – Daughter and Husband Filed Police Report Against Him

What made matters worse, according to Lan, was that his daughter and her husband filed a police report against him, falsely accusing him of being responsible for the debts.

“They shifted all the blame onto me and even went as far as filing a police report, falsely claiming I was the one who borrowed the money,” he said.

Feeling helpless, Lan made the painful decision to cut ties with his daughter, stating that he could no longer handle the pressure and harassment from loan sharks.

Loan Sharks Harassed Father for RM41,000 More

Just a few days ago, two different groups of loan sharks turned up at his home, claiming that his daughter had borrowed another RM41,000. The harassment, threats, and emotional distress left Lan with no choice but to publicly sever ties with her.

“I can no longer help her repay any more debts. Her actions have left me completely heartbroken. That is why I am officially severing my father-daughter relationship with her,” he declared.

MCA Bureau Chief Warns Against Illegal Lenders

During the press conference, MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief, Datuk Seri Michael Chong, urged the public to be cautious and avoid borrowing money from unlicensed loan sharks.

“Only borrow from regulated and licensed lenders. Most loan sharks will resort to harassment, threats, and extortion when repayments are not met,” he warned.

He further revealed that the bureau has received 42 reports of loan shark-related extortion cases since January this year, highlighting the ongoing crisis surrounding illegal money lending.
