Move over city life, there’s a Gen-Z guy in China who decided to ditch it for a bamboo shed in the mountains! Meet Wenzi, born after the year 2000, who’s living his best life on the edge of a hillside cliff in Xiaxi, Wanshan, Guizhou. 

Wenzi built his cozy bamboo shed in September 2023 and has been calling it home ever since. Sure, his actual house is just 500 to 600 meters away, but thanks to the wild mountain roads, it takes him a solid hour on foot to reach his hideaway. Talk about commitment! 

But why the bamboo shed, you ask? Well, Wenzi spends his days growing veggies, taking care of pigs, and making hilarious videos for his Douyin fans. And don’t think he’s alone up there – he’s got two trusty dogs keeping him company. 

Now, some folks on the internet say his “reclusive life” is just for show, but Wenzi fires back, “Hey, I go back home every two weeks, okay? It’s not like I’m disappearing forever!” According to him, living in the mountain-made house is a dream come true, clickbait accusations aside. 

Before this mountain escape, Wenzi was your regular blue-collar worker, fixing cars and doing the heavy lifting on construction sites and in a garment factory. After a few years of machine monotony, he had enough and decided city life wasn’t for him. 

To those who think he’s not doing much with his life, Wenzi’s got a witty reply, “My life is as full as it gets, and it’s not easier than a 9-to-5 job – just a different vibe, you know?”
