Forbes Advisor has stirred up some controversy by naming Kuala Lumpur the 5th most dangerous city in Southeast Asia, and 29th worldwide. Meanwhile, Yangon, Myanmar tops the danger list in Southeast Asia, with Singapore taking the crown as the safest city globally and regionally.

Malaysia’s Past Glories

Malaysia has a history of impressive achievements and global recognition. Not too long ago, it was named the most beloved country in Asia and the second most peaceful in Southeast Asia in 2023. These accolades have made Malaysia a top destination, especially during Chinese New Year, trailing only behind Japan and Thailand.

The Dark Side: KL’s Dangerous Reputation

However, Forbes Advisor’s latest update paints a darker picture, listing Kuala Lumpur among the most perilous cities in Southeast Asia. This ranking is part of a broader comparison involving travel insurance data for Americans, spanning 60 countries.
