KTMB Train Delayed for 3 Hours, Passengers Told to ‘Jungle Trek’

A KTMB train travelling from Pulau Sebang to Batu Caves was left stranded on the tracks for three hours after a fallen tree caused a major disruption to the railway system. According to TikTok user @horajunie, who was onboard, the train halted between Bangi and Serdang and lost power following the incident.

Without electricity, both the train and its operator were unable to continue, leaving passengers trapped in place without updates or alternative transportation.

Passengers Forced to Detrain Into Overgrown Bush Area

After hours of delay, KTMB personnel instructed all passengers to disembark from the stalled train — not at a station, but onto an uneven, bushy area near the railway.

Videos shared online showed passengers carrying their luggage and backpacks, carefully making their way down a steep and unpaved slope. Some struggled to navigate the terrain, particularly older passengers and those carrying heavier loads.

Passenger Compares Experience to Jungle Trekking

Despite the ordeal, @horajunie attempted to stay positive and joked that the entire event felt like a makeshift outdoor camp or “jungle trekking” session.

“I don’t know how the people in front were so strong — carrying luggage while also wearing backpacks,” she said in her post.

She also sympathised with the elderly who had to descend the slope and navigate the bushy terrain with everyone else. “There was a shop area up ahead, but still, I feel bad that we had to climb down that steep path.”

Netizens React With Humour and Frustration

The TikTok video quickly went viral, with netizens chiming in on the situation. Some responded with humour, asking if KTMB had started offering “leadership camps” as part of the train experience.

Others, however, expressed anger and disappointment over the repeated inefficiencies in the KTMB system.

“KTMB has had problems since I was a student, then when I started working, and even now as I wait for death — it’s still the same,” one user wrote sarcastically.

Several also questioned whether passengers would receive any compensation for the delay, but the original poster confirmed that no such gesture was offered.

Public Transport Woes Continue Amid Demand for Better Infrastructure

This incident reignited public debate about Malaysia’s public transportation infrastructure. Many Malaysians have turned to trains to escape daily road congestion, but breakdowns and delays continue to plague systems like KTMB.

Frustrated commuters pointed out that projects like LRT3 could ease the burden, but delays in completion only extend their reliance on KTMB — flaws and all.
