Abuya must be turning in his grave—or wherever his followers claim he is. Here’s the latest on Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) and the recent developments surrounding the group.
Mass Arrests by JAIS: Over 100 Nabbed
The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has arrested 108 individuals linked to GISBH for various violations related to Shariah law. These offences include issues of faith, unauthorized charitable collections, and unlawful marriages, as explained by JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.
Beliefs Contradicting Islamic Law
Investigations have uncovered that the suspects practice beliefs that contradict Islamic laws or fatwas. These beliefs include the idea that their leaders can provide blessings for entry into heaven, adherence to the Aurad Muhamaddiah teachings, and the conviction that their leader, Abuya, who passed away in 2010, is still alive in another realm.
Shahzihan stated, “This includes their beliefs…that (the group’s) leadership provides blessings to the members, allowing them to enter paradise, practicing Aurad Muhammadiah, believing that Abuya is not dead and is in the unseen realm, that his body floats because Allah has elevated him, and that either the Prophet pbuh or Abuya is present at some of the gatherings that the group hosted.”
Children Rescued from GISBH Shelters
Authorities have successfully rescued 592 children from shelters operated by GISBH, a notable increase from 402 during raids in mid-September. Reports indicate that these children have been subjected to various forms of sexual abuse and physical torture by their caretakers when they resisted compliance.
Educational Program for Rescued Children
In response to this situation, the Education Ministry has initiated an educational program for the rescued children, starting on October 1. This program aims to provide formal and structured educational access to those affected.
Ongoing Investigations: No Plans to Close GISBH Premises
Despite the ongoing investigations, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced that there are no plans to close GISBH-owned premises. Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif stated, “We did not get any instructions to close the premises. The police investigation is still ongoing.”
On September 28, the Selangor government ordered the closure of all GISBH premises in the state and the confiscation of the company’s assets.
