Chinese Tourist Shocked as M’sian Bus Driver Plays Mobile Game While Driving
Chinese Tourist Films Shocking Moment on KL-Penang Bus Ride
A bus driver on a long-distance route between Kuala Lumpur and Butterworth, Penang has come under fire after he was caught playing a mobile game while driving, putting the safety of all passengers at risk.
The incident came to light when Malaysian newscaster Tan Chia Yong posted a video sent to him by a netizen whose Chinese friend was on the bus at the time of the incident.
“A viewer sent me a video that their Chinese friend took on a long-distance bus. The bus driver in the video was actually playing mobile games while driving!” Tan wrote on Facebook.
“Are All Malaysian Drivers Like This?” – A Disappointed Tourist Asks
The video, which shows the driver tapping his phone while behind the wheel, sparked concern and disbelief.
“Are all Malaysian drivers like this?” the Chinese tourist reportedly asked, clearly stunned by what they had witnessed.
Tan Chia Yong reassured the public in his post that this was not reflective of all Malaysian drivers, but rather the actions of a dangerous and irresponsible individual.
“This is a black sheep and he must be found! Driving a bus like this is really horrible,” he wrote.
Netizens Demand Safety Reform, Monitoring Devices for Bus Drivers
In response to the video, Malaysians online voiced their outrage and called for immediate disciplinary action against the driver, as well as preventive measures to stop such incidents in the future.
Many netizens suggested that bus companies install surveillance cameras at the front and rear of the driver’s seat.
“This issue is mentioned almost every year but it seems to be constantly reoccurring,” one user wrote.
Another comment called for technological innovation:
“Can we invent a device that disables internet on the driver’s phone when he sits in the driver’s seat?”
Recurring Concern Over Driver Behaviour in Malaysia
While this case stands out because it was recorded and went viral, it is far from the first time public transport safety has come under scrutiny in Malaysia.
Some netizens pointed out that such irresponsible acts, especially among bus or lorry drivers, are often underreported unless caught on camera.
The public now awaits a response from the bus company involved, with many urging the Ministry of Transport to tighten regulations and monitoring systems for commercial vehicle operators.
