Man Gets Trapped Inside MRT Pillar at TTDI While Trying to Steal Cable

A bizarre scene unfolded in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur, when a man was discovered stuck inside a structural pillar beneath the MRT tracks in what has now been confirmed as an attempted cable theft.

Rescuers Found Him Lodged Beneath the MRT Tracks

The incident occurred during the early hours of the morning, with a viral video showing a group of firefighters trying to bring the man down safely from the concrete structure.

Eyewitness footage captured the scene near the TTDI MRT line, with emergency vehicles already present and a crowd forming as firefighters worked to retrieve the man from the pillar gap.

The Rescue Happened Right Beside a Fire Station

In an official statement, the Taman Tun Dr Ismail Fire and Rescue Station confirmed receiving an emergency call about a man trapped inside a pillar near the MRT track, adjacent to their station.

When the team arrived at the scene, they discovered the man—believed to be in his 30s and of Malay descent—wedged within the hollow structure of the MRT support pillar.

With assistance from the Sri Hartamas Fire and Rescue Department, firefighters deployed an aerial ladder platform (ALP) to reach the trapped individual and safely lower him to the ground.

“The rescue took place at approximately 2:38 AM right next to the TTDI Fire Station,” the department said.

Man Was Allegedly Attempting to Steal Cables

While initial details were unclear, a follow-up report from Harian Metro revealed that the Kuala Lumpur Operations Control Centre (PGOKL) had confirmed the man was suspected of trying to steal electrical cables.

“According to police reports, the individual is believed to have been involved in cable theft activity,” the PGOKL noted.

He was subsequently handed over to the TTDI police for further investigation and possible legal action.

Not the First Time Cable Theft Disrupts MRT Systems

Cable theft has long been a troubling issue across Malaysia, often disrupting transport infrastructure and endangering both lives and public safety. However, this case stands out due to the sheer absurdity and location—right next to a fire station and involving such an unusual method of access.

Many netizens responded with shock and disbelief, with some joking about the man’s poor choice of location and timing.
